ICAN reaches first major milestone in Turkish AIS Project

St. John’s, NL – May 7, 2007 – On April 19, 2007 in Brisbane Australia, ICAN in a joint partnership with Australian Maritime Systems Ltd (AMS), (prime contractor), Aneltech of Turkey and C.N.S Systems of Sweden successfully passed the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)for the Turkish UMA Project. This marks the completion of the first major milestone in the project.

The tender from the Turkish Undersecretariat of Maritime Affairs, was awarded on December 20, 2006. The project will cover 27 AIS (automatic identification system) shore base stations, 40 AIS operation centres, 1 AIS main control centre, 1 AIS maintenance, repair, and control centre, IP telephone network, all network devices, computers, routers, etc. The system will cover the complete coastline of Turkey, from the Black Sea down to the southern coastline to Syria.

AIS is mandatory as IMO and ITU directives, and all Turkish ships over 300 gtn will have to have AIS transponders in 2007. The Turkish AIS transponder market is estimated to be about 5000 ships.

ICAN will deliver its vessel traffic data management solution package designed to help Maritime Traffic Management Authorities manage vessel traffic by utilizing AIS infrastructure. ICAN solution packages have proven performance to increase the safety, security and efficiency of maritime operations. They provide the ability to view and track all vessels, display specific vessel information, and send and receive safety related and text messages.

“This project will position us well for future work in Turkey and is a significant reference for similar projects in other countries” says Neil Chaulk, President of ICAN.

This success is further proof for ICAN being a worldwide leader in AIS Network Integration.
