What data formats can I use with Aldebaran II vs. Regulus
II?
The available chart data formats currently read by Aldebaran II include: IHO
S-57 (ENC) vector data, CHS and NOAA BSB raster data, CHS NTX vector data, British
Admiralty ARCS raster data, Seafarer, C-Map CM-93 edition 3 vector data, and MRE data.
With Regulus II, you can choose any two chart formats.

Will ICAN perform the software installation?
If ICAN supplies the computer, initial installation and
configuration of ICAN's software is included in the price of the software.
If you supply the computer, initial installation and configuration time for
ICAN’s software is included in the price of the software, up to a maximum of
4 hours. Unless otherwise indicated in our quotation, installation,
configuration and interfacing related to external electronics devices and
ship systems are not included in the installation service. These activities
are billed at ICAN's technical support rate.
Are training courses available?
Unless otherwise indicated in the quotation, training in the
use of ICAN's software is not included in the price of the software.

How do I get technical support?
As part of the product warranty, one year of technical
support related to ICAN's software is included in the price of the software.
This is normally provided by web, e-mail, telephone and fax. A pager number
is available for access to Technical Support outside ICAN’s normal business
hours. Registered users of our software can seek online help by
filling out a
form detailing your support request or call 709-754-0400.
What operating system do I need to run your software?
ICAN's software requires either WinXP or Win2000.
Please Note:
Builds of our software prior to 27XXX did support
WinNT 4.0. ICAN will continue to provide technical support to those
customers that are using WinNT 4.0 with an older version of our software.
ICAN does not support any new licenses operating on WinNT.
What is the difference between the Desktop (i.e. office
use) and standard versions of your products?
Desktop versions of ICAN’s software offer no interface with
your PC's communication ports, and therefore cannot directly process GPS or other sensors. They
are not designed for navigation, but are intended for planning, training,
data analysis, remote monitoring and other "desktop" uses.
Is there a warranty on ICAN's software?
ICAN warrants its software to be free from defects in material or function for a period of one year. If the software is deemed defective it will be repaired or replaced, at the vendor's option, without charge, given satisfactory proof of purchase. ICAN’s software warranty and any applicable service agreement apply to defects only and is void if the software has been: damaged by negligence or accident after purchase, used other than for the purpose for which it is intended to be used or not used in accordance with the operating instructions supplied, adapted or repaired other than by the vendor or an approved representative, added on to or used with other products which may affect its integrity, performance, safety, or reliability.
Will I be entitled to any updates should they become available during my warranty period?
There will be no charge on build updates (interim releases during warranty period or extended support period, including defect fixes and feature adjustments).
If I own an earlier version of your software what do I have to pay to obtain a version upgrade?
Version Upgrades are available for 50% of full product price at time of
upgrade and includes one year of technical support. Only previously owned products and modules are available for upgrade
pricing. If you participate in ICAN's full
investment protection plan, all version upgrades are included.
If I own a competitors product and I am purchasing ICAN's software do I have to pay full price?
If you already own an Electronic Charting System and you are
considering purchasing a new one, ICAN offers you further incentive to
choose our ECS software. We offer a discount limited to the list price
of the competitive product at the time of upgrade. If the competitive product is no longer
available, the discount is limited to the original price of the competitive product, less 20% per year on a declining
balance. In all cases, discount is limited to 50% of ICAN's product
price. All purchases include one year of technical support.
How much will it cost if I want to upgrade my current ICAN product to another higher end
product?
Product Upgrades include such things as moving from Regulus II to
Aldebaran II. Credit will be given for ICAN products already owned up to 50% of the new product price at time of addition.
Do you offer any educational discounts on ICAN products?
ICAN offers an educational discount of 50% off our list price. Volume discounts do not apply. The product must be used
ONLY for Educational Training and/or Educational Research. Purchase order and payment must be issued by Educational Institution. Licenses will ONLY be issued to Educational Institutions. This discount is subject to change without notice and can only be claimed at time of purchase.
Can I purchase extended technical support or receive full investment
protection?
The following Full Investment Protection conditions apply to ICAN
software products only. For all hardware and non-ICAN software,
manufacturer’s warranties apply.
Full Investment Protection
This includes technical support, build updates, and version upgrades to
ICAN software. Full investment protection for the first year is included
in the purchase price of the software. Full investment protection for
subsequent years must be purchased each year within 90 days of the
calendar month and day of the original purchase, and costs 15% of the
current list price (MSRP) of the product. Full investment protection
must be purchased every year, without interruption, within the time
periods indicated above, in order to remain in effect.
Can we purchase charts from
other locations for use in ICAN's ECS?
Yes, official charts can be purchased directly from NDI, NOAA/Maptech,
British Admiralty/UKHO or via ICAN. Aldebaran II supports the CM-93, BSB, S-57, NTX,
Seafarer, and ARCS data formats.
Regulus II supports any two chart data formats.
Am I eligible to receive Canadian
S-57 updates?
The license for official Canadian S-57 data includes one year of
updates from the time of purchase. Updates are available directly from
NDI via the Internet. To continue to receive updates, the license must
be renewed on an annual basis.
What is the process for
registering for Canadian S-57 updates?
If you purchased your Canadian S-57 data through ICAN, your
registration information, including the list of charts purchased, was
provided to NDI at the time of the sale.
