Neil Chaulk, President of ICAN, was recently selected as one of Atlantic
Business Magazine’s Top 50 CEO’s. This recognition salutes the region’s
latest generation of corporate superstars. Nominations come from the magazine’s
readers and are judged by a select panel of business executives. The citation
for Neil’s award said:
“Like a lottery win in the hands of the unprepared, even successful
companies can be sidelined by too-fast growth. And while it’s a problem
envied by many, managing growth while maintaining profits presents a very
unique, and real, challenge for business owners. Fortunately for this
maritime navigation and surveillance company, Neil Chaulk is at the helm.
His response was to involve virtually all of his employees in the company’s
various projects and sales efforts as well as forging relationships with
customers. He says the autonomy they gained along the way has created a more
self-motivated workforce where each individual is aware of, and focused on,
growing profitability. Although being an entrepreneur wasn’t his original
career plan, (“I love building things and electronics and communications
systems were my initial interest and choice of a career”), this electrical
engineer has surprised himself with the discovery that he is equally adept
at building strong corporate structures.”
Atlantic Business Magazine, in referring to its winners, stated “Your
perseverance through adversity and the attendant results are an impressive
testament to the wealth of our greatest natural resource: entrepreneurial
talent.” Winners were profiled in the May/June 2005 issue of Atlantic
Business Magazine and were recognized at a prestigious Awards Gala in
Halifax in early May.
